On January 23rd UW ALA volunteered at the American Lung Association's Fight for Air Stair Climb.
At 6am these dedicated volunteers (pictured below) gathered outside the iconic Burke Museum in the pouring rain, ready to take on a fun morning fighting lung disease and lung cancer. Upon arrival at the location of the event, the Ranier Tower, the group split up and headed to their volunteer obligations- but not before indulging in a delicious breakfast of coffee, donuts and fruit provided by the American Lung Association. Some members participated as greeters for participants of the stair climb as they arrived. Others timed and cheered on participants as they neared the finish line. The Ranier Tower is 140 floors high but it was no problem for some participants who climbed that distance not once or twice but thrice. This event featured everyone from firefighters and marines to the elderly to the very young who consistently served as images of inspiration and support for ALA's cause. Each and every volunteer will vouch that they couldn't imagine a better way to spend a Saturday morning. Nearly $12,000 were raised from the Stair Climb towards research in lung cancer and lung disease not to mention the immense support for those suffering through these illnesses as well as their families. Thank you to all those pictured below - (right to left) Chi Huang, Rachel Arulanantham, Sally Leong, Emili Allen, Ameera Haq, Kyle Curtis (bottom row, left to right) Valerie Paragas and Victoria Henderson for all your help! |
